Expeditions Manager

Steve Jones

Steve has been living and working in high-risk environments of thirty-five years. As a mountaineer, expedition leader, and polar guide, he has led groups to both the North and South Geographic Poles and on forty expeditions to the World’s great wildernesses including mountaineering in Alaska, Canada, the European Alps, Greenland, the Karakoram, Morocco, and Russia. He spent nine years leading expeditions for Raleigh International and Wilderness Expertise before joining ALE in 2004.

He is an internationally acknowledged expert on polar expeditions. As our Expeditions Manager he was worked with almost every South Pole Expedition in recent years and has helped 75% of all South Pole expeditions. He worked nine Antarctic seasons in a row as a base camp manager and field guide and then served as the Field Operations Manager at Patriot Hills and then Union Glacier.

As our Expeditions Manager, he is the main point of contact for all independent expeditions from first inquiry to departure. He also contributes to the operations planning and is part of our staff training team.

Outside of work he is a Vice-President of the Royal Geographical Society, a fellow of British Exploring Society, an honorary fellow of World Extreme Medicine, a Scout Leader and the main dog walker in his family.
