Reducing Exposure To Hazards

Our Travel Safety Team are always busy with behind the scenes work in Antarctica.

Travel Safety manager Simon Abrahams and Mechanic Nigel Blenkharn recently travelled 1300km to deliver our Toyota Hilux to our South Pole Camp, where it will be used for logistical support.

What’s the large object projecting from the front of the truck? It’s a Ground Penetrating Radar antenna which the team used to survey over 350km of previously untraveled terrain in order to establish a new section of routing that reduces our exposure to hazards such as crevassing and large sastrugi fields.

As a bonus, the team enjoyed open vistas and a parhelion around the sun in the last degree of latitude approaching the South Pole.
